help - added: Birth of Ella Louisa Newbury in Devon

I cannot find any record of my great grandmothers birth she has her mothers maiden name so im guessing born out of wedlock approximately 1877 in devon. I have her death and marriage certificate but no birth what do I do?

Firstly can you give us her full name?

Is there a more precise birth place on any census or just Devon?

Well I have been told it is Ella Louisa Newbury from West Teignmouth Devon well thats what it says on the census approximately 1876/7

I cannot see anything in the birth indexes as yet, but there is this entry on the 1881 census for a 3 year old Ella Newbury born Teignmouth, Devon & described as grand daughter. Link to it here: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X3KC-FJJ

This is the only Ella born in Teignmouth that I can see. Possibly the daughter Louise's child?

Is this the right Ella?

Thank you for the warm welcome and for helping me look, I have seen that census and have tried to search her birth from that information I have her wedding certificate death certificate but nowhere does it tell me her actual date of birth.  So hard!! Thank you though for all your help.

I see she married 1914 under spelling Newberry is that right?

That's funny but she is stepdaughter to William Knight in 1901 which is also the name of her husband.

Looks like the same man to me.  Am thinking her mother was his wife Louisa Knight.

Yes Louisa was her mother and she then married her stepdad I imagine once she had died and went on to have many children one of which was my grandfather. Her husband was William Saby Knight born 28th Feb 1863. married 11th August 1914.
