Hello dobfarm

For some strange reason I saw Scalby Parish in the Index and knew I wanted to check it, but must have had a brief episode, as I have not noted Scalby:-

In List as seen:-
"Cloughton PE 135/8/1
No 1845 Hood burial"

I will have to get Scalby (North Riding) checked.

Burneston (North Riding) is near Bedale per Yorkshire Parish Registers, Colin Blanshard Withers book (but no listing for Burniston).

Regards Mark

Scalby original (or on micro film) PR's and more Cloughton need a real thorough checking of all Hood events 1730 -1879

Burniston is at Scalby/Cloughton near Scarborough (two separate places and locations)

Burneston is in Bedale near the great North road A1
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

See page 56 from 1829 book by John Cole, re Scalby, Burniston, and Cloughton

Seems historically, Burniston once had a Church.

I would think tracing how far back the entry abodes for Burniston go in Scalby parish register will tell if Burniston was a parish covering 1780's baptisms of Burniston in Scalby - if none  ??? then there could well be missing Burniston parish baptisms or sat in the archives  ie :- a George Hood bapt

I once was looking at a tax book for Holmfirm at WYAS- at the back of the book when turned upside down coming in from the rear, was other records as if start of a new book, entries of births & baptisms of an old workhouse that no one seemed to know about. A woman in the USA like you had been hunting a GT x number granddad for years in various websites including Rootschat, and there he was in the workhouse. I PM'd her and she went -nuts off the scale with shock, amassment and gratitude. I said it was just me being nosey handling black centuries old dust on books. So keep hoping and one day.

Scalby parish registers -

Surname Hood appears only in Marriages and Burials:

Alice, buried 1794
Alice, married 1839
George, married 1829
Mary, married 1830
Mary, buried 1833
Richard, married 1810
Sarah, married 1830
William, buried 1873

Burniston as a residence appears frequently in the Scalby registers.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Interesting  :-\

I've been looking at burials at Scalby from 1830, and not until 1844 do I find any mention of the residence of Cloughton.

But then look at this attachment of an entry in 1845  :-\ :-\ :-\

I've found Cloughton registers - hidden it appears under Scalby, but definitely a separate register (possibly the BT's).

Baptised 19 September 1798 - George Hood, son of John and Jane
Buried 25 May 1800 - William Hood
1801 - John Hood is Chapel Warden
Baptised 25 October 1801 - Jane Hood, daughter of William and Hannah
Baptised 18 March 1804 - Sarah Hood, daughter of William and Hannah
Baptised 13 December 1807 - John Hood, son of John and Jane
Baptised 29 May 1808 - Mary Hood, daughter of William and Hannah

Got to go and do something else now, but I've made a note of location  :o
