Owen Morris and Ann Morris of Narberth Pembrokeshire
« on: Saturday 15 August 15 20:10 BST (UK) »
I am attempting to trace the ancestry of my mother's line. My great great grandparents were Owen Morris (1826-1897) and Ann Morris (1828-1896) who lived at Little Greenway, Narberth, Pembrokeshire. He was a farmer/horse dealer. They had 4 children, John F. Morris (1850-1919), Sarah Morris, Sr.William Morris, 1851-1880, (who died in Afghanistan) and Jane Morris (1856-1875). I am looking for any information on Owen and Ann Morris, particularly on their parents. I seem to be at a dead end? I would appreciate any information on how I should best proceed.

Thanks.

Welcome to Rootschat!   ;D    ;D

Do you have a birth certificate for any of the children to confirm Ann's maiden name?

Do you have their marriage certificate to confirm names & occupations of both their fathers?

This could be their marriage in 1848

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KCL4-YGM

the register would give details of their fathers.

They didn't only live in Little Greenway. Owen is described as "of Pantyfynon, Crinow" in the death notice for William

I do not have birth or marriage certificates. I have the marriage certificate of their son John Morris (my great grandfather) listing Owen as a “horse dealer” but no other official documents. The information that I have was mostly family history provided by a family member.
It appears that the marriage certificate of Owen Morris and Anne James is almost certainly for them. The information from the 1851, 1871 and 1891 censuses confirms Anne as her name. The data in the cenuses is also consistent with the children’s ages I have from my family history. Jane Morris died of pneumonia  (age 19) in 1875 so is no longer present on the 1891 census.
Although they moved around, they were never too far from Narberth and the family grave in the Llawhaden Churchyard where they ended up. I will hopefully be able to learn more about their parents.
Thank you everyone. I appreciate your help

it would be a good idea to buy a copy of one of the birth certs so that you know you are following the right people.

The cheapest way is to go via the GRO from this link

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

If this is the correct couple, the parish record for their marriage shows Owen's residence as Dyffryn Trogyn, he signed, his father was William, a labourer. Anne's residence looks to be Caegwyn, her father John a carpenter, she signed with her mark. The witnesses were Philip Lewis & Eliza James who both signed.
Both Owen & Anne are old enough to be away from home on the 1841 census.

There is a Dyffryn Trogyn Farm within a few miles of Llandissilio. There is also a Caegwyn, Clynderwen in Pembrokeshire a few miles south of Llandissilio along the A478 towards Narberth. This is not far from Llawhaden.  Both would seem to be a good fit for Owen and Anne being married in Llandissilio in 1848 and still  living there in 1851. In any event, I have applied for a birth certificate for John Frederick Morris, as suggested. Thanks again.
