Oletta

I saw an earlier post by you regarding Thomas Murray from Canonbie and you mentioned he was related to you. Thomas is in my family tree being a son of James Murray a farmer from Ladyhouse Steads. Is this the same Thomas in you line ?

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve

sorry I haven't got back to you sooner.  My Thomas Murray was born in cumberland in 1783 and died in Canonbie in 1854.  I can't get a death certificate for Thomas with his father on as this didn't happen until the year later in 1855 in Scotland.  As for his birth certificate I have been searching in cumberland but not sure where to look.  It would be nice if our families matched!!!

My Thomas is buried in Canonbie churchyard, let me know if this is the same Thomas in Your Family Tree.

Regards
Oletta

Hi Oletta

The Thomas who is in my family tree died 26/6/1908, he was the son of James Murray ( and Helen Scott ) James died 7/5/ 1893 aged 79. There appears to be quite alot of Murrays in Canonbie and I suspect many of them are related. All were laid to rest in Canonbie Churchyard.

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve

When I was trying to find information on your family tree and mine when, I came across a death for a James Murray who died on March 20 1860 aged 7 months living at Ladyhouse Steads, Canonbie.  Son of Andrew and Jane Murray nee bell.  Is this your James's parents??

Hi Oletta

According to the 1851 census James and Helen (Scott) Murray had a son Andrew born 1836 and who died 7/5/1863.

This may be the Andrew that married Jane Bell, who had a son James who died 20/3/1860 and another son George who died 17/6/1873 aged 20.

James and Helen had a large family and lived at Loophill at the date of the census.

I think you may have identified the wife of Andrew for me so many thanks for that insight.

Is your Thomas the shoemaker from Low March house who was born in England ?

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve

Yes, Thomas the Shoemaker from Low Marsh House is my family.  But I still think you will be related somehow to my Thomas but may take a bit of investigating
