Thomas Hackett Ellerton Grange Staffs?
« on: Thursday 20 August 15 00:39 BST (UK) »
Can anybody help me finding out information about my 4xgreat grandfather whom I believe might have been a Thomas Hackett working at Ellerton Grange in around 1790?
His son, John Hackett was born Ellerton Grange in 1804 and baptised at Adbaston St Michaels.
I believe he was the youngest child of Thomas and, possibly Hannah Hackett.(We do not,I believe descend from the more wealthy line of textile manifacturing Hacketts associated with Ellerton and then Derbyshire.)
 There were also a number of daughters-Elizabeth(1790) Mary(1791) Hannah(1793)Ann(1796)
Sarah (1798) and Frances (1800) all baptised at Adbaston.
John subsequently ended up in Bridgnorth from the 1820's where he was a labourer and died in the workhouse there in 1883. I can trace all the history from Bridgnorth to the present day but know nothing for sure about the family in Ellerton and/or Adbaston. Any advice welcome!

Hi Katy and welcome to Rootschat
apart from all the children you have mentioned there is also a Thomas Hacket born 1788 - so he looks to be the eldest
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NDPJ-H51
also a Denna Hacket in 1802
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N2WK-881

this tells us that Thomas and Hannah married 1788 or earlier

I think this is likely to be the marriage of Thomas Hacket and Hannah
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NXFG-R25
Adbaston to Mucklestone is 7 miles on AA Routeplanner

so if he married in 1787 -  this would mean he was born around 1760 - 67 if he married around the age of 21
there are only 2 Thomas Hacket showing born in Staffordshire in that period
one is born in Alrewas in 1861 - but he is still in Alrewas in 1841 census - so I think we can discount him
the other is this record in Baswich - 10 miles from Mucklestone
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JWKQ-W6R

I think that Baswich christening is more likely to be your Thomas Hacket - parents John and Mary - 2 names chosen for Thomas and Hannahs children - maybe named after Thomas's parents ??

Thanks very much for this.I had already penciled in the marriage at Mucklestone as possibly the correct one and visited the church there last year.
I did not know about the other 2 children and the Baswich link . It does sound likely as the name John-whilst very common-does continue in every generation of our family tree even up to today!
