Edith Helena Coghlan latter Sherrard
« on: Thursday 20 August 15 08:34 BST (UK) »
Edith was born in Cork about 1866 but I believe turns up in Oxted Surrey .On the 1901 English Census she us a Lady's Help at Flint House Oxted. She marries 1905 to a Thomas Sherrard. But after that I am unable to find them. Any information would be appreciated. Sorry don't know any information about Thomas.

Maybe they went back to Ireland and would show up on a census there.

Have you got the marriage with fathers name etc? **

** I see it online

Residence for Thomas at time of marriage Co Cork so likely they did return to Ireland.
Thomas was 51 widower farmer father William deceased Clerk in Holy Orders

Her father Henry a school master.  One of the witnesses is Frances Jane Coghlan.

Surname is down as Cryhlam and her father as Hellen but I think Henry and Coghlan are better!

Have sent PM  :)

There's a possible son Dermot Heber Sherrard born in Cork 1906 so possible they went straight back to Ireland (if the correct family)

Hello . Very interesting .Had not found the marriage details you mention. Her father was a Heber Coghlan . And yes it is I am sure the same family. Thomas dies 29 Nov 1933 Lindvile Ballintemple Co cork. His probate is on line .Yet to find Edith's death . But their son Dermot Heber marries around 1934 to a Muriel Crowley and has 4 children. He dies 1993. So very grateful for all the help . This has been sitting unsolved for many years. Thank You .

The family are in Ireland in 1911- Edith seems to be Thomas' 2nd wife-

Thomas Sherrard in 1901 with wife Gertrude and a daughter in addition to the son also in 1911 household-

Perhaps you've also forgotten to check the civil registration index?

Not sure if you are still looking but I know a lot about this family - she was my great grandmother...
