After a long interval following other lines, I have returned to the problem of Percy. I wonder if anyone would be able to look in the trade directories for Glasgow and Edinburgh for the year 1912, for picture frame makers. This was Percy's profession. If he really did run off to Scotland, I'd look for him in the largest centres of population first.

These are freely available at the National Library of Scotland, so you can look for him yourself. https://digital.nls.uk/directories/
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Percy's place of birth (on 2 Feb. 1879) was indeed Battersea.

From his baptism record
Percy Amidie BREWER dob 28th February 1879 - have you tried using his dob on the 1939 register?

Have you checked the London Electoral Register?

Thanks, Forfarian. I didn't know about them. I'll take a look.
