great-great-great grandfather George FOSTER
« on: Saturday 22 August 15 17:49 BST (UK) »
I am looking for some information on my great-great-great grandfather George Foster. I do not seem to be able to find him after 1861 when he was on his son's (James Foster) marriage certificate. at the Parish Church,Stockport.
His residence on the certificate is Disley Hill Old Road, and he is a labourer.
His son was born in 1835, and I have found him as a servant boy aged 16 in Dean Row, Bollin Fee, cheshire, and the girl he married, was also there as well, by the name of Hannah Lawton, but I cant find anything of the father George. Can anyone help?

check out the address of Hannah and relative Isaac Bradshaw birthplace in 1881 census
Dean Row , Bollin Fee - you say James was a servant there in 1851 census age 16 ?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X3BG-JDT

it would appear that the servant married the Houseowners daughter named Hannah Lawton ..
Isaac Bradshaw was also born there - so - do you have the names of Hannah Lawtons parents ??

OK - Hugh Lawton marriage - it explains the Bradshaw relative in census
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NHZ6-2Q6

so Hannah mother was Maria Bradshaw - I presume Isaac Bradshaw in the census was her father or uncle  :)

Hello,

Do you mean you have George before 1861 but not after?
On the marriage certificate, the address will be James's address. Was George a witness to the marriage?
If not, he may be deceased even though it is not stated on the certificate.

Regards
Heywood

In 1891, James has a sister Mary, born 1827, Gatley.

I have only found her in 1861 2572/103/4

George Foster 58 yrs
Mary Foster daughter 33 yrs
Mary Ann Foster   grandaughter 8 yrs
Hannah Foster gradaughter 3 yrs

Mary is described as deaf/dumb in both censuses.

Do you have this?

I have the 1891 census with Mary on it.but I didn't have the 1861 with her on it with George Foster. Maybe this is where I can find a bit more about George, he doesn't appear to have a wife on that census. Thanks for that info. :D
