Advice please on finding William Houghton Monk
« on: Tuesday 01 September 15 22:30 BST (UK) »
Hello
Can anyone advise me about this?  I have been trying to find relatives that seem to have disappeared.
Evelyn Maud Stott married William Houghton Monk at St John's Oldham on14 March 1921
Then he pops up in Ontario marriages 1801-1928 marrying Gwendoline Ruby Jinks
It's the same man both the son of John Henry Monk, so what happened to Evelyn? Was he divorced or widowed? How can I find where they lived?
There is a William H Monk in immigrations going to Quebec and also an Evelyn May Monk.  Thanks Glyn

Hi,

Would this be him... arriving in Canada in Aug 1925.  Says he is single - born in Failsworth.  Was in Canada (Toronto) from 1924-1925.  Address in Toronto is 141 Boon Ave.  Contact in UK is father, 651 Oldham Rd, Failsworth.  William is an engineer.

Hi,

Did you see a passenger list with both Evelyn and William on it?  I found a Form 30A Ocean Arrivals... for Evelyn May Monk, wife of Arthur Conway Monk.  Minnedosa, Sept 13 1923

This Evelyn May doesn't appear to be your Evelyn Maud.

some of this seems to be correct

and this looks like where William got his middle name from

1901
HAUGHTON ARMS Oldham Rd Failsworth Lancs
Elizabeth Birch wife 60 widow Licenced Victualler Bury Lancs
John Hy Monk son 31 married son of Publican Failsworth Lancs
Emma Monk wife 32 Failsworth Lancs
Jane E Monk daughter 1 Failsworth Lancs
WILLIAM H MONK 4months Failsworth Lancs
RG13 3773 14 19

John Henry Monk at a later date was a surveyor for the council -so "Architect" would fit in with occ on son William's marriage to Evelyn Maud Stott

Failsworth falls within Prestwich reg district (not Manchester)

Marriage reg FreeBMD
Dec qtr 1890
Prestwich
on same page
John Henry Stott
Emma Yeadon
8d 527

also it seems from later information Elizabeth Birch was John Henry Monk's mother (possibly she had been widowed remarried and widowed again????
