I've been looking at the maps at Bristol's Know Your Place, but no joy!
http://maps.bristol.gov.uk/knowyourplace/
Bear Inn is marked, if that's any help.

But Hotwell Road (note the spelling!) is very long, and runs from the City Centre to underneath the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and up Bridge Valley Road!

Family members lived in Hotwells until 1940s where in disc . throughout the last few years with the last 2 surviving , I have been able to get a great deal of info . and understanding of the area and the times they grew up in . Alongside the books purchased and the internet information , it is sad to remember the area as I was to see it as a child growing up through the 70s and 80s and when living in Bristol .
It seemed a vibrant area that supported business , trade , housing etc... and prospered both the city and the locals .
It is so great to see the gradual change over the last 25 or so years on my visits back to my birth city .
The Bear is still there as many of you know and alongside the Adam and Eve ( a past pub of my family )  , are pubs visited on occasions when there .Sad when you see the amount of pub closures today and for various reasons compared to the amount of pubs and taverns that survived of the day .

Well done KG as an aside double -trouble have you located Ellen Elizabeth Bevil prior to marriage,  as wondering who the ( as transcribed)  Ellen E REVIL 19 b Cheltenham is with mother/sibling and a George Williams 32 and Ann 31 residing at Wellington Park Villa, Clifton in 1851?
Census ref HO107/1952/505/74

I did a little work on the Bevil ,s a few years ago and struggled to find them pre Cheltenham as I believed they travelled as a family due to Ellens fathers workrole as a wine merchant

EDIT from another site they show surname as Bevil
I did some work on the Bevil's a few years ago and struggled to find them pre Cheltenham as I believe they travelled with Ellens father being in the wine trade .
Not spent anytime on the family recently but may have to get their info . out at somestage .

Hi again, as Ellen and Eliza b c 1825 Oxfordshire were shown as "Sister" when did George Williams marry possibly an Ann Bevil?
Eliza disappears for a couple of census but looks to be still single aged 56 b Oxford working as a Servant in London 1881?
