COATBRIDGE Look Up for Dugon/Duggan/Dougan/McAvoy

PATRICK DUGGAN b.1877-1879

I am hoping you can help me with some research that I am trying to do but have come to a bit of a stalemate (in 2010).      I do not want to go to the expense of getting a copy certificate for every Patrick Duggan born in England between 1877 – 1879.  Especially as the name varies quite a bit at times.  This is what I know to be true.

1901 Census in Scotland shows PATRICK DUGON    23 yo born England
He is a boarder and his profession is Tube Work Labourer.

1905 Marriage in Scotland.    PATRICK DUGGAN is 28 yo at 14/07/1905,
His occupation is shown as Tube Work Labourer.
His Father is shown as JOHN DUGGAN, Furnace Keeper (Deceased)
His Mother is shown as ANN DUGGAN m.s.MCAVOY (Deceased)

1913 Death in Scotland now shows his name as PATRICK DOUGAN,
35 yo at 08/04/1913, Pauper formerly Tube Work Labourer
His father is shown as JOHN DOUGAN; Blast Furnace Labourer (deceased)
His Mother is shown as ANN DOUGAN m.s.  MCAVOY (deceased).

1891, 15th June, Death in Scotland of his Father JOHN DUGGAN, 50 yo, Assistant Furnace Keeper.  Widower of Ann McAvoy.    There are no parents recorded on his Death Certificate, as he was living in lodgings at the time of his death.

I am therefore looking to locate the following:-

1)   Birth Certificate of Patrick Duggan (Dugan/Dugon/Dougan/Doogan).(b.1877-78)
2)   Marriage Certificate of John Duggan/Ann McAvoy( assume 1877 or before)
3)   Death Certificate of Ann Duggan m.s. McAvoy (deceased between 1877-1891)
4)   Birth Certificate of Ann McAvoy (b. unknown)
5)   Birth Certificate of John Duggan (b.1841 approx)
6)   Details of any other children on John Duggan/Ann McAvoy

I did find "a" John and Ann Dougan on a 1861 census in (Lanchester, I think)  but cannot find any trace of them or Patrick until Coatbridge in 1901 census.

Strangely, the man Edward Quinn who signed as witness on his death certificate also lived in Lancester at one point and ends up in Coatbridge in 1911.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am demented as I keep going back to this and get nowhere.

Thanks Carole, I think that may be too late.  I have been working back from ages on Married/Death and census and reckon he was born between 09/04/1877 to 14/07/1877.

By using his death certificate,  I reckon his Dad John was born between 16/06/1840 and 15/06/1841

Assuming Age on Death Certificate is correct.

Look Up for Doogan/Dugon/Duggan/Dougan/McAvoy

I think I have found John and Ann Doogan on the 1861 census in Lanchester, Durham:-
Doogan, John b.1840 M.(21) Work Labourer (Ireland) - William Street, Lanchester.
Doogan, Ann  b.1845 M.(16)                       (Ireland) - William Street, Lanchester.
Lodging with John Carroll (18) and Rose Carroll (16) - Married Dec 1860.
The name is shown on Ancestry as dorgan and not doogan.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am now trying to follow that through but the only thing I can see which may link (and I need help) is on the 1871 census in Pendleton, Salford there is the following. There is no name on the index and I do not have membership to check it more thoroughly, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Doogan, John b.1841 M (30) Iron Puddler     Pendleton, Salford, Lancashire, England
Doogan,   ??? b.1845 M (26)

I had a look at the original 1871 census on Ancestry. There is definitely no first name recorded for the female Doogan, age 26, presumably John Doogan's wife. It shows:

John DOOGAN, age 30, puddler at foundry, b. Ireland, lodger, married
(BLANK) DOOGAN, female, age 26, b. Ireland, lodger, married

They are living at 15 Shuttleworth Street, Salford, Pendleton, Lancashire.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Thanks Rodeo

The Name, age and employment tie in with what I have been looking for for the last 10 years.  I keep going back to it every now and then.

I am now trying to track them via a young couple that they were lodging with in Durham 1861 census. I was hoping if they were friends as then they were only 21 & 16 and 18 & 16 respectively, I am hoping they travelled from Ireland together.  The "other" young man appears still in Durham 1871 as a widower living with his brother.

I found an index showing his young wife died in Salford in 1863.  Your find now leads me to believe they all moved to Salford together but he returned to Durham on the death of his wife.  It just frustrates the hell out of me that they just show the birth as Ireland.

Many Thanks
Margaret

My 3 x Great aunt was Ann Ryan. She was made godmother to a Ann Duggan in 1872. The Ryan family all lived on Shuttleworth street at that time. In 1871 my 3 x Great aunt Catherine (nee Ryan sister to Ann)Masterson lived at 15 Shuttleworth street. The address for the Duggans was 13 Shuttleworth street in 1872. Parents of Ann Duggan were John and Sarah Ann Lytham(according to Lancashire parish register). I do not know if this info helps in anyway
