Ellen's Occupation
« on: Thursday 10 September 15 21:43 BST (UK) »
Hi Chatters:

Any ideas on Ellen's occupation on this 1874 marriage register? The only thing I see is 'Stationer' and I'm wondering if others see it differently.

Nope, by comparing the letters I see "Stationer" too.

"Stationer" looks the nearest that I can think of but not a good match. What is the location? Knowledge of local trades might suggest something else.

Thank you Skoosh and Roger - it doesn't matter how many times I look at it I only see Stationer as well.

Peter: It was a marriage to Charles William Wood in Tamworth Staffs, 1874. Her Father, Daniel Percival Appleby is shown on the register as a builder. She was born around 1851. I've been trying to find her on the 1871 census. The closest match I could see was an Ellen Appleby who was a lodger in Tamworth and had the Occupation listed as Domestic Servant.
