So are seeking a marriage between Maria Jane or possibly Maria Ann CONNELL and Ralph LEVY

When were her children Henry and Mary born?

Births according to NZ BDM  including a very late registration in 1968.

1900/9012   LEVY   Henry James      Mother Maria Annie   Father Ralph
1901/11143   LEVY   Mabel Sarah     Mother Maria Ann           Father Ralph
1905/17246   LEVY   Alexander           Mother Maria Ann           Father Ralph
1907/1918   LEVY   Violet May            Mother  Maria Ann   Father Ralph
1968/147584 LEVY Myrtle Melba    Mother Maria Ann           Father Ralph

And this looks like the marriage of the above couple.

1898/4587
HEDGE Maria Ann
LEVY Ralph

There is this death which may be her former partner or may be not :-\ :-\
1898/2256   HEDGE Henry    50 years

According to a newspaper report, this man drowned and was married.

And there is a Will
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/SimpleSearch.do?keyword=henry+hedge

BUT you say the grandchildren Henry LEVY and Mary LEVY were named as beneficiaries in Mary's mother's Will in 1900.  Perhaps Mary LEVY was from a former marriage/relationship.

All speculative ;D

Cando that is a different family.  Maria Ann/Ann Maria LEVY died in 1907 and her funeral left the home of her mother Mrs HEDGE.

Thanks Debra....pity the OP didn't give the name of the father of those LEVY children ::) ::) OR some info as to their dates of birth

Perhaps some further help may available on the NZ board.

I don't think they know  ;D

I haven't had any success with finding anything of interest for a Maria/Mary Jane CONNELL/LEVY.  Perhaps they weren't in NZ.

Diggels, can you list the children of James and Mary Jane CONNELL as I see only a few were registered.  Have you followed them up to see if they lead to any mention of the LEVY name?

Mrs Levy of Wellington to meet her sister. Sister was Jane (Jenny) Connell born c 1877, died Dec 1895 of Wanganui, lived with parents (fell from a train platform, paperspast, educated at the convent in Wanganui, interred in Wanganui)
Cousin Lucy Gastroe was travelling with her.

So there is  mention of the Connell/Levy name and Wanganui.

Jane Connell died 1895 was the fourth daughter of James and Mary Jane Connell of Wanganui

Another daughter Margaret Connell died aged 5 months old in 1879

I wonder about this man:
http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/1463481/LEVY,%20HARRY

Harry Levy, son of Mrs M. Levy.
On his army record it says location of N/K unknown, was brought up in an orphanage (Nelson Receiving Home?)

Also religion "RC" with the date 8-9-1900 and location Wanganui.
On page 10 gives date 8.9.00 again but on page 11 apparent age "24 years 9 months"? (in 1915) which would be more like 8.9.1890

Harry Levy was left money in 1900 by grandmother Mary Jane Connell, wouldn't that suggest he was still with his mother until about 10 years old if he was the same man?
