The easiest way to get info would be to buy the birth certificate.
£9.25 from GRO
Reference: September qtr 1922, Saddleworth, Volume 91, Page 343

I think the Catholic church would be St William and Sacred Heart, Uppermill?
But the website of that church says:
Following Catholic Emancipation in 1820, the first centre in the area to be established was at St Patrick’s in Huddersfield. In 1920 Saddleworth became part of the parish of Slaithwaite, which had just split from St Patrick’s. However, since this was ten or twelve miles away across the moors, and before the ubiquity of the motor car or public transport, the few Catholics in the area found it easier to reach Mossley for Mass. Parishioners still with us remember walking – and pushing a pram – the five miles there and back.

So maybe St Joseph, Mossley?
Records are at Lancashire Record Office
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hello,
Lancashire BMD shows Joseph Gallagher b 1922 with mother Waldron. Is this the right family?
The sub- district is Springhead so St Edward's, Lees would be more likely or even St Anne's Greenacres.
The church records are possibly available in Oldham Local Studies Centre but at the moment the site seems to be down.
There is a death for Joseph the same year, Springhead- is that him?
The burial could well be at Greenacres Cemetery, Oldham but again I can't access the site.

Regards

This is strange. Have you changed your post?  :) I thought you were asking for Saddleworth, hence KGarrad's post.
The records can be difficult though. The area involves records for Saddleworth/ Lancs County and Oldham.

Did you already have the marriage certificate? It does help if you post all the information you have - saves time and effort in searching!

I see that the site is now up and running and St Edward's records do cover those dates.
If you get no joy from the archives, I may be able to get there and check for you.

I managed to get there. The microfilm is one of those filmed in negative and is quite feint in places.
However here you are. The records are in Latin.

Patrick- very poor but think this is it.

Born 12th April 1920
Baptised 23rd May 1920
Patrick Gallagher - parents Patrick and Ethel
Godmother Maria Elliott.  Probably Mary rather than Maria

Kathleen
27th June 1921
24th July 1921
Catharinas ((Kathleen) Maria. - entry says that
Parents Patrick and Ethel - maiden name Waldron

Godparents Thomas Overton and Rosa Cassidy

Joseph
6th August - birn and baptised
Same parent details no Godparents
There is a note in the margin too difficult to read but think 'privatum' is mentioned and RIP.
Seems like the poor child was baptised at home soon after birth.

The priest for all was Archibald (I think) Bartlett and the address 2 Thorpe Lane as you say.
