not too much help I'm afraid but I remember reading in a local paper (Down Recorder??) that John Lennons ancestors originated from the Castlewellan area of County Down in a small farming hamlet called Aghlisnafin (hope that's spelt correctly)

Indeed it is!
It's about 3 miles NE of the town of Castlewellan.

I also remember reading somewhere that he (James) was a Cooper in Mooneys bar in Castlewellan
