I am not sure how we can go back reliably on this without evidence of John bn c1838's birth.  For all we know his father was in the Army and was only in Ireland because he served there. There is no obvious evidence that his father was born in Ireland or that his mother was Catherine. You mention that his father was also an Iron Ore Miner but John jnr's marriage cert says his father was an agricultural labourer.

When your grandfather left the information about John senior did he give any more information on the family other than just names.  You are suggesting we should be looking in Wexford , Monart - what information do you have to point you in that direction
