Hi,

Thomas Alexander Gray's WW2 service records (CMF and AIF) have been digitised and available to view on the National Archives of Australia site.

Once again, thanks to all of you for your help.

I've now got three things to follow up .
 - - William's marriage cert . . I'll wait a bit, until the euro/sterling rate improves!
 - - that obituary for Thomas
 - - I found a probable Immigration for Thomas in 1925 on FindMyPast and GenesReunited

May I suggest that you not mention online subscription only websites as a subscriber doing a search using your information and posting the result here would breach the terms and conditions of that subscribers membership.

Sorry about that, Cando.
I'm not a subscriber to either site - I didn't realise that I couldn't post what I found just by "trawling" without a sub.

And thank you for that info about Thomas from the National Archive site.

(I'm most surprised that he's a "farmer"!)

I misunderstood your request but by mentioning you had found 'possible' records on subscription only websites I thought you were hinting for someone with a sub to do lookups for you.

His occupation was actually noted as farming and possibly Australia was looking for farm labourers at that time after all he was an assisted immigrant ;).

Cheers

I suppose Bromley was quite rural in those days, and he may have helped on farms.

I was just a bit surprised - the family tended to be teachers, policemen, telegraphists, and his father was a soldier who served in India and S.Africa. Maybe he felt that putting farming as his occupation would help him to get to Australia!

regards and thanks once again for everything, eadaoin

(and for all who helped, let me know if you have problem Irish ancestors! I'll do my best to ferret them out!)

Exactly.  Anyway he ended being a painter. :)

I've been fairly successful with my Irish ancestors but will keep you in mind when I am adding 'meat to the bones'  :)  You may regret your offer :P

Cheers for now

Just about to do this now.
That's the Mudgee Guardian website? (not the Ryerson Index one?)
edit: it looks as though I have to email the "Mudgee Guardian" editor . . ?

Incidentally, I've been enjoying trawling through the Mudgee Guardian - it's given me a great feeling for local life in the war years, etc. It reminds me very much of some rural New York State newspapers I looked at for some other relations a few years back . . the same combination of very local matters and National/ International affairs.
