Stockport & Reddish Sunday Football Records
« on: Sunday 27 September 15 10:51 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I am currently trying to write a short history of the Stockport/Reddish Sunday Football Leagues. I am particularly interested in the period 1970 to 1980. Do you know if local reference centres hold such records? I would like to obtain copies of the league tables, game reports etc. I also understand that the Saturday "Football Pink" reported on these leagues so again, where might I gain access copies of this paper?
Best regards,
Paul
I lived in Ardwick, Manchester in the early 1960s as a small child and much travelling of the world has now led me to want to know more about my roots. Carter, Beckwith, Connolly, Heron and Kelly are all names that form part of my family tree.

Hi Paul,
Stockport Heritage Library may be able to help with the Stockport/Reddish Football Leagues. They do hold most of the local newspapers.
http://www.stockport.gov.uk/
From the link go to libraries and then heritage library for the email address.

From memory the "Pink" was a Manchester Evening News Publication and there is a post here that might interest you.

You might find something of interest in the Stockport Image Library.
There are some photographs of the local football teams.
Put "Football" in the search box

Thanks and I will follow up.
I am really looking for information on a team called North Park Rangers, whose home ground was at one time Reddish North Park. They were managed by a man called George ..... who lived on Stockport Road, Reddish. I understand they played in the Stockport or Reddish District Sunday League during the 1970s. Hope this might ring a few bells with someone!
Regards
Paul

Paul,
Have you tried posting on a Reddish or Stockport page on Facebook?

I'd agee with that Paul! Presumably they still read the Stockport Advertiser in the snowy wastelands north of Broadstone Road?

So long gone are the days when Stockport itself supported not one but two weekly newspapers.
