Annie Mary Tester where is her husband?
« on: Monday 28 September 15 15:42 BST (UK) »
Annie is the sister of my Grandmother.  Born Littlehampton  1885 Annie Mary Jupp. I found her marriage  1909 Reg. East Preston on Free bmd, clicked page number no husband given.  I know she married an Albert Tester and also named her son Albert.  How do I know this, because I remember both gentlemen known to me  as  Old Uncle Bert and Young Uncle Bert.  Dad was very close to his cousin Bert the younger! We kept in touch throughout the years.  Annie  (known as Nan) died before I was born.

Reversing the process I searched for a male Tester marriage same date.  I found 2 in East Preston Alfred Charles married Bessie March and Albert  William married Constance M Lang.  All three page numbers are different.

Is the spouses name always recorded?  Any ideas how to find Annie's husband?

The transcript for Annie is wrong on freebmd hence the reg district in italics.  You can check her entry by clicking the spectacles alongside and viewing the original gro index page - it looks as though the number for her is wrong

Just beaten to it!

As Rosie says, Jane, the way to check is to click on the glasses and check the original image.

Well we learn every day, I didn't know clicking on the glasses allowed viewing of the original page.

Wish I'd know that years ago, would have saved a lot of frustration with 'dead ends'.   ;D

Clicking the glasses only shows the index page and not who they married (until 1911)

One way of checking in cases like this is having found one record just search that quarter and district with no names in the search.  That will bring up all of the entries and it is then possible to 'spot' other entries that have errors such as incomplete numbers which are possible matches.  :)
