I'm getting a bit confused here ( not hard ) I definitely don't need my Aunts consent as next of kin for me to send for her brother my Uncles  Service Records as he died in 1984

Agreed, but if she applies for them then the MOD will issue the service record (if they have it) free of charge. If *you* apply for it, you are neither the soldier himself nor his spouse and therefore you will have to pay the £30 charge.

That of course might not matter to you; it wouldn't have for me either, but my mother was just as interested as I was so she applied on behalf of both of us.
