Query date/uniform MacKay, Sutherland Scotland

Attached photo may be of Alexander MacKay b.1867 in Talmine, Sutherland, Scotland.

Would be obliged if it could be approx dated, and if anyone has a clue as to the uniform.

If you save and post images as .jpeg's they appear in the posting as a viewable image rather than an attachment

Thanks Sarah. Yes, it is the same photo. I did have it as jpeg but could not load it as it was too big. Will go through the tutorial about resizing and see if I can get it to work!

Problem is the photo I have is a laminated photocopy of original photo which I then scanned.

There must be someone with the knowledge to date this photograph of a Highlander, is it tinplate or on glass or other process?

Just moving it up.

It's a Carte de Visite (CdeV) post 1875. Unfortunately it's in B & W are there's no back included which would help us date it more accurately.
At present mid 1870's to 1880's with an outside chance of being as late as early 90's.

Looks like it is not the man the family thought it was! If its that early its unlikely to be Alexander b.1867 unless he's had an even harder life than we would have thought and looks a lot older than his years!  Back to the drawing board.
