Death search
« on: Friday 09 October 15 06:39 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a date of death for Martha Isabella Clark ( nee Love).  Her husband Peter Clark died 16th October 1953 in Far East Rand Hospital, Springs, Transvaal.  I used an archive search to get Peter's death certificate, and some info about their daughter Adeline Alice Love Kingman formerly Coleborn nee Clark.  But I couldn't find anything about Martha.
Is there an online newspaper archive of a local paper which is freely available? Some clues as to which direction to try would be much appreciated.
The Clarks lived at 9 8th Avenue, Geduld, Springs at the time of Peter's death, so maybe Martha stayed there after his death.
Any advice gladly received,
Meredith

Although I cannot find a death for you I have found another child!  Phyllis Stewart Mansfield nee Clark(e) 15/6/1908 - 31/10/1981.  She was married to Hector Roberts Mansfield and died in the Free State.

A copy of the death notice is on familysearch.

Thank you, Nookie.
That is great:  I had her name, but no dates.  It seems she and Hector didn't have children?
I'll now go to the Family Search site.
My 90 year old relative is travelling to South Africa next year, hoping to visit family sites.  He would love it if I could find a descendant he could visit, but I do not hold out much hope of finding any.

thanks for your efforts,
Meredith

What a find!  Thank you so much.  I've now got some serious Googling to do!

Not sure if you realized that the death notice was just the beginning of her estate file.  I have been through it and the full names of her children are:
Ashton Roberts Mansfield
William Stewart Mansfield
Malcolm Peter Mansfield
Winston Neville Mansfield
Marion Isobel Mansfield m Hermanus Robert Joubert
Zena Ann Mansfield m Allan
Christina May Mansfield m Booysens then Groot

I have discovered that Malcolm died on 11/12/1938 and Winston on 21/5/1940.

Still trying to find the others!

Here is the estate file for Lionel William Stein Coleborn - Adeline's husband.  He owned a farm in Standerton Transvaal. Possibly they had children, or any children she might have had with Kingman could have been mentioned in his estate.

Well done, Nookie.  I did follow the file through and was staggered to find the estate files attached. We don't have any such system here in Australia - we have to go to different agencies to find the relevant data. With that data in hand, I have now found a current family member through the wonders of Facebook, and are awaiting her response.
Thank you though, for the other dates - I'll add them to my tree.
As it happens, we are meeting up with my relative (who is travelling to South Africa next year) this coming Saturday, so I will be delighted to hand over this new information.  I'm sure he will, by then, have a current member of our family to visit.
Any further info, gratefully received.  Cheers, Meredith
PS.  I THINK I have attached two photos of my relative Peter Clark ( Boer War soldier, then settled near Johannesburg after the war).
