Looking for a Dawson
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 08:37 BST (UK) »
Hi I wondered if anyone can help me. I am looking for the parents of Charles Thomas Dawson c1834-1898 , English Dawson c1837-1909 and a Betsey Dawson c1839 all born in Lincolnshire. The parents I believe are a Thomas Dawson and a Elizabeth Walker. The Thomas later is called Charles Thomas so who know's. Hope someone can help Thanks Babs

1841 census shows no father for Thomas and English - and no Betsy.

Elizabeth was a widow in 1851, aged 59 born Scamblesby.

Thomas buried aged 40 in 1838.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Skipping a generation, Thomas DAWSON married Elizabeth ENGLISH at Sutterby in 1791. :)

Hi thanks for the information could anyone mail me with the easiest way to use Lincstothepast Thanks Babs

I'm not sure Lincs to the Past could ever be described as easy. There's some amazing stuff in there but it can be difficult to find.

I go to http://www.lincstothepast.com/ and search in the top right for "xyz parish" (e.g. "hagworthingham parish"); this will bring up some search results including one for "Hagworthingham Parish Records" with reference: HAGWORTHINGHAM PAR

Click on the title "Hagworthingham Parish Records" and scroll right to the bottom of the page (this was the bit it took me a while to figure out!) to where it says "Sequence Details". Click on "Browse the n records at the level below this one"

Then look for "Registers" (not "Registers of Services") and click on that.

Scroll down to the bottom again and again click on "Browse the n records at the level below this one"

Finally you should be able to see the various volumes of baptism, marriage, burial, and combined registers. The ones with images next to them are available to view online. (The others you'll have to visit Lincolnshire Archives for.)

Click on the image for the register you want to view, and browse through the pages to the year you need.

The image viewing window is small and difficult to use, and the images are watermarked to prevent copying. But you'll find images of hundreds of original registers which you won't find anywhere else for free. Some are on Findmypast but again need browsing through page-by-page because they haven't been indexed or transcribed.

If anyone knows of an easier way than this, I'd love to know it.
