A quick search of Welsh Newspapers Online doesn't give many clues - most references to Tawe House refer to Pontarddulais. However there is one item from 1916 mentioning Miss Lily Bowden of Tawe House, Wychtree St, Morriston  who appears to have been a pianist and music teacher

The Cambrian, Feb 1907 carried an article about "Tawe House, Caemawr" (captured as "Caemavrr" by the OCR read). It was this item that led me to Ellen/Eleanor Williams on the 1901 Census.

Hanes teulu, I'm beginning to wonder if I've mis-read the page that you've looked at. You mention the Williams family (Elen) which shows "Caemawr" and under that in brackets "Tawe House". My family is the Evans family listed last on the page - Rees Evans with wife Mary Ann and family. Perhaps I've wrongly assumed that the "Do" under Tawe House refered to the other on the page.

Hi it does appear that Rees Evans & family form part of the households residing at Tawe House.

Hi Again,

Looking at the completed Census entry, it appears that 'Tawe House' was divided between dwellings 168 - 172. (172 on Page 29).

The Entry for 171 shows:

Household Members:
Name    Age
Rees Evans    36
Mary Ann Evans    34
Mary A Evans    5
Sarah Evans    2
Thomas M Evans    8 Months

And so the dwelling for your family members comprised 2 adults + 3 children. The Head of the Household is Rees Evans, and so definately a seperate household to the other households shown on the page.

I'm not local to Swansea, and don't know if the 'Tawe House' shown here denotes a block of flats, or a terraced property. As this was 1901, perhaps it no longer exists? There appears to be some ambiguity about the name of the property, as the Census Entry shows it as 'Caemaur' with 'Tawe House' in brackets. (See attached snippet).

Romilly.

That's the family Romilly. I was curious about the address as I'd only just started on this bit of the family and I'm always eager to know more. Next time I go to Swansea Reg Office I'll pop into the Archives and ask there. I need to get a birth cert for either Rees or his brother Thomas in order to try and get back another generation on this one!

Hi Again Gwen j,

I had another quick look for you, and Rees Evans seems to be a Boader on both the 1881 and 1891 Censuses. He's boarding with other Evans' on both, but on the 1881, where the Head of Household is Sarah Evans (Widow) Age: 43yrs, under 'Relation to Head' by Rees Evans name it says 'None'.

I don't know if you've settled on a definate Birth Entry for him, but this one could be a possible:

Rees Evans
