1841 Dodsworth address
« on: Sunday 11 October 15 10:15 BST (UK) »
Hi all

You might be a bit better than me at transcribing this. It's never easy when the enumerator changes his original text!
I know it's in Old Malton, North Yorkshire, but can't read the address.

Any ideas please?

Not sure, but FindMyPast have transcribed the address as Browse Cottage.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Yes, looks like that to me.
I've had another suggestion that it might be Border Cottage, but I'm not sure about that at all.

Unfortunately, whilst FindMyPast have a much better scan of the images, they do not appear to include the Enumerator's walk, which Ancestry do include BUT the images are very faint.

Not sure, but FindMyPast have transcribed the address as Browse Cottage.

It would almost make sense as it is near the Cattle Market  :)

Hi Rosie!
OK, then - I'll go with Browse Cottage.
Brow I could understand, even Brows, but Browse just seems odd.

Hey-ho!

Yes, by 1851 they are in Horse Market Road, although still in Old Malton.
Then 1861-1881 they have moved to Stamford Bridge West, Scoreby, Low Catton, Yorkshire, where Thomas is a navigation agent.

I noticed Horse Market Road but no house names or numbers.  Still at least they were still in the same area.  ;D
