Hi Ann! Wow thank you so much. That's the most infomation i have got about my grandfather. I just spoke to my mom and she said her brother is John Joseph. This must be the right man. Do you know where he was born by any chance? Thanks for your help

Hi Mags,
From the birth records of your mother and her brothers, this man did not always use a middle name of Peter.
He DID exist as he was present at one of the birth registrations.

The name on his 1965 marriage says Thomas Peter and his parents were called Joseph Edgar (Saddler) and Bridget Tobin.
I didn't look for a birth when I was at the GRO but I have since done a search on SP and think I can see  it.

I don't want to post his wife's name here as there is a slim chance that she is still living.
She signed his 2003 DC, and named him simply as Thomas Edgar
Thomas died in Johnstone 17 Apr 2003, and his DC provides the same parent names ( Joseph and Bridget)

However there is a  1917 marriage in Paisley for JOHN Edgar and Bridget Tobin and a corresponding birth for a Thomas Edgar b 1919 in Johnstone.

I still don't have a clue if this man could be your grandfather, but there are similarities.

EDIT:
I am simply putting names together Mags but you should see where I'm coming from with this one...
There is a family in Linwood Renfrewshire at 1901 called Tobin .
Father is  called Thomas, mother Bridget with daughters called Bridget and ROSE Ann

I think daughter Bridget could be Thomas's mother and I can see that Rose Ann emigrated to the US in 1928

Hi Ann,
Thank you for the infomation! This must be my grandfather. My mom and nan moved to England around 1964-65, she never got on with her mother and was told a few porky pies! My grandmother told my mom that her Dad had died of TB so my mom has always believed he died. She knows nothing about him only his name and that he was slightly older then my nan.
I do believe this must be my grandfather especially as he was at the birth of one of my mom's brothers. I really appriciate your research. Do you know if he had any other children in his marriage? Or is there only the 4. I have one DC for my mom's brother, Thomas Edgar signed that to say he was the father, no other infomation was on there. Just the house they lived.

Mags,
I never looked for any other children born to Thomas P Edgar and your grandmother.
I knew there were 4 of them from the info that you provided.
All were born between 1954 and 1959. The youngest one died in 1962
(Your mum was born on exactly the same day as myself)

If Thomas was the man who went on to marry in 1965, I doubt if there would be children born from the marriage.
Thomas was 45yrs and his previously married and widowed wife was already 43 yrs old at that time.

I have looked on scotlands people and found a marriage certificate for Thomas, it doesn't say who he married.

Thanks for your help Ann, this is the furthest I have got with your help :)
I now know your birthday so I shall wish you a happy birthday on the 9th ;-)
