Edgar was apparently the name she used. She was never married to my mom's father Thomas. Her maiden name is mcalpine and legally her married name would be watson.

There is no birth record in Scotland for anyone named Thomas Peter Edgar who could father a child in 1928.
Possibly Irish?

Earliest marriage for a Thomas Peter Edgar is 1965 in Renfrewshire
Earliest birth showing is 1954 also in Renfrewshire

EDIT:
APOLOGIES.
I misread the OP thinking the birth was 1928 rather than 1958

Anne - I checked that also -- but I may be confused here -- I thought that Thomas Peter Edgar was the father of the child born in 1958 (not 1928).

Either way - I couldn't see a birth for Thomas Peter Edgar in Ireland, Scotland or England -- unless the full name wasn't recorded at birth.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Pennines, I realised my mistake and I was editing at the same time you posted !

The 1965 marriage could be the right man after all

A birth cert from 1958 should have a wealth of info.
Father's name, address and occupation should be on it.

I go to the GRO regularly and shoud be going again with the next few weeks.
If Mags has this info, I will look at the 1964 marriage to see if anything matches.
( do not post the info here as this man may still be living, although someone with this name died in Renfrew in 1975)

Yes -- that marriage could well be correct - particularly as we are struggling to find births for anyone by that name ---- anywhere!

Any info gleaned from those marriage details would be of great interest and may help with finding a birth.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for late reply. On my mother's birth certificate it says her father was Thomas Peter Edgar, I also found a death certificate for her brother who died says again Thomas Peter Edgar. She doesn't know any dates as her mother left Scotland when my mom was 5 leaving her father there so my mom hasn't a clue. She said he died from TB? My mom was born 1958.
