Look up request - William Rixon
« on: Wednesday 14 October 15 14:40 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone assist with parish records please.

I am looking for the parents of Charles Rixon - (1861 census Paddington Middlesex) birth 1816 -  place Benefield Berkshire.  The only possibility I can find on line is Charles - baptised 27th June 1813 Binfield Berkshire - parents William Rixon & Elizabeth.

I would be interested in knowing if there are any other possibilities worth exploring and if not is there is a  marriage record between William & Elizabeth with dates and Elizabeths birth name.

All assistance much appreciated.

 :D

You'd do better posting on the Berkshire board.

I wasn't sure of an 1841.
There is a Charles with wife Elizabeth in Bucklebury (my Berkshire geographical knowledge is sparse, so do not know if that is near Binfield without looking at a map), she is not born in county, nor are eldest 2 children. Children are MAry 5 James 3 and George 6mths, none of which are there on 1851, so I was not convinced.

Hi lizdb

Thank you for your thoughts.  I see your point and its a good one.  The child I was looking at was James who is on both census although the ages are wrong.

I feel reasonably convinced the family mentioned in the 1851 census are the right ones I have various records supporting this my difficulty is moving back in time as always and not living in the area.

I have no knowledge of Berkshire either and the maps I've accessed so far haven't been any help.  Obviously I have a lot more research to do on this very new branch.

dawnsh thanks my apologies.

THe 1841 Bucklebury family (Charles Elizabeth Mary James and George) can be ruled out as being the same family as the 1851 Paddington family, because they are still in Bucklebury in 1851, children Mary now 15, James now 12, George now 10 and some more younger children.

I note that in 1851 Charles is shown as a Butler.

Have found a Charles Rixom  25   working at the George Hotel, Stafford in 1841 as a servant (not born in county) and think this could be your Charles.

A Charles Rixon, son of William Rixon, married a Betsey Winks, dau. of William Winks, 5/12/1842 Egham, Surrey.

The only Charles/Betsy I can find on census is your couple so think this could be their marriage.   No doubt his occupation meant he worked in various places and no doubt how he met his wife who was born in Redditch, Worcestershire.

Charles Rixon shown as bc.1814 Binfield (not 1816) on 51/61 census which ties in exactly with the baptism you have in 1813, son of William and Elizabeth.

Berkshire Marriage Index shows:

William Rickson married Elizabeth Jupe 15/12/1810 Sonning, Berkshire.  He is shown to be of the parish of Benfield and a note has been made that he signed his name as 'Rixon' (so you know he was literate).
