Currently I have a tree on ancestry and use familytreeamaker software. however I do not use ancestry as sole source.  I have an account with FindMyPast, but no tree and buy credits when I find anything of use - 1911 (when fist came out); recently some newspaper archives and soon to come 1939 register.

Not sure what you mean. Like others I have a personal tree on my comp , so don't care if it does or doesn't have back up.

I am using FindMyPast the same as LizzieL , in the hope it may link me to somebody I haven't found elsewhere.

I keep my "live" tree on USB and carry it with me everywhere, and use several sites such as ancestry, find my past and Genes Reunited as back up where I have the option on each to keep the tree private to prevent poaching.

On tribalpages a back up is possible via a GEDCOM.

Oh I see what you mean by a back up.

I did mine the other way round. I made my tree on Familytreemaker, my version is FTM for windows 95, so it predated the tree facility on FindMyPast (or 1837online as it was called at the time!). Then I made a Gedcom file from the FTM file and uploaded it to FindMyPast.
I haven't tried creating the tree on FindMyPast and then downloading it as a Gedcom.
According to the help on FindMyPast it should be possible but I haven't worked out exactly how.

got it now - too early in the morning to follow instructions properly!
If you go to view all trees, there's an icon to the right of the tree name saying export which saves as a gedcom file. It's very slow, but that could be because my tree is quite big (nearly 5000 people) and my internet connection is very slow.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge

Yes I,ve just imported my tree from TP via Godcom to FindMyPast to see what it looks like.  OK but the Media showing saved pictures, documents are not so clear as on TP

How do you view public trees on FindMyPast.Ive looked everywhere and can see no way to view.
