I've been stuck for a long time on my maternal great-grandfather, Charles/Charley Dunleavey.
I can't find a birth registered for him in England, and family murmurings point to him possibly being born in Foxford, County Mayo.
As far as I can make out, he was born in 1876 (death certificate states he was 79, although this could be out by a few years!)
He married Phoebe Ellen Caulfield in Barnsley, South Yorkshire in 1918. He was 39, Phoebe 25.
He is described as a bachelor on his wedding certificate. But it is possible that he was married/had children in Ireland.
His father is named as Barney Dunleavey, a farmer.
He died in 1955 in Batley, West Yorkshire.
Any help/advice is appreciated!
Hi, I have just registered for this site, because I have been interested in family history recently and my Mom just happened to have some records that we needed to prove our British Ancestry, so I googled my great grandfather and this was the first result!
So I got very excited and had to contribute!!
Charles Dunleavy is my Maternal Grandfathers Father! He is my Great Grandfather!
I actually have photo's of his birth and death certificate, according to his Birth certificate Bryan Dunleavy was his father and Anne was his mother.
My Grandfather was John Dunleavey (surname spelt different, must have changed when they moved to the UK!) who had a lot of sisters! Mary, Annie, Norah, Helen, Cathy, Agnes and Margaret and they all lived in Pontefract road in Hoyle Mill in Barnsley!
He died on the 6th of November, 1955 at General Hospital Dewsbury
