Coolnaserran
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 12:56 GMT (UK) »
I have a civil birth record from IFHF for George Mullan born 16 Feb 1865, giving his address as Coolnaserran Garvagh. I haven't been able to find this townland and haven't found the record in the  Errigal parish records. These particular records, online in NLI, don't appear to be original as they are all in the same handwriting. Does anyone know where Coolnaserran is?

Only other townland in Errigal Parish that begins with 'cool' is Coolcoscreghan

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

I find it easier to use Suan Ruad townlands database most of the time (website address may be changing)-

Thanks aghadowey and hallmark. I thought if I could find the parish record I'd be able to read the original.I think some entries might be missing...there are no births registered between Dec 18th 1864 and March 8th 1865 http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633042#page/23/mode/1up

No problem, always frustrating when a gap of a few weeks covers possible dates for what one is looking for!

Possibly due to change of clergy note priests' names-

Aha! that would explain it. There mustn't have been a priest in the parish for a few weeks. So George must have been baptised somewhere else as they wouldn't have waited that long to baptise him. Thanks aghadowey.  Just noticed there is a Coolnasillagh in Errigal...that's a possibility too.

Coolnashillagh is same as Coolnasillagh  ;)

He may still have been baptised there but the entries didn't get written in the register.
