« on: Monday 02 November 15 00:07 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather was William O Connell born in  Mallow  sometime in the 1840's.  Married Ellen (Nellie) Hutchinson.  Joined the British army and lived in South Africa, Scotland, and Cork City  Died 1943.  I am looking for information on his exact birthplace and family.

Did they have any children born in Scotland? Scottish certificates contain far more detail than Irish ones and birth certificates list date and place of parents' marriage.

Have you located the family in any census records, etc.? any details might help trace William's family in Ireland.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Could this be his marriage record?  LINK
It is William OConnell to Nellie HUTCHINSON on Oct 19th 1905 CORK Q4 V5 P79
which would make him 60ish when he married?

Two Children - George 1908 and Ellen 1909 - LINK

There is also a possible child born in Dublin in 1906 William - LINK

This seems to be the full name of young William born 1906
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FBGX-CJQ

he appears to be on the English census 1911 age 4 overseas military, born Dublin

I think that may possibly be the same person. His wife Nellie died nearly 30 yrs after him I always assumed he died young however if he was in his sixties that would explain him dying so much earlier. Also I would be completely out on the birth date.  The only child I know of was my grandfather Albert o Connell born 1911 in Pretoria South Africa.  Thanks for all that information it's all very fascinating
