Thomas Little - the mystery of!
« on: Wednesday 04 November 15 07:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Looking for a baptism/birth of Thomas Little, born c1849 in Canonbie, Scotland.
He married Ellen (Eleanor) Casson in St John's, Workington, Cumbria on the 18th March 1874.
He named his father as THOMAS LITTLE.

Can anybody find him in 1851, 1861 and 1871.

His occupation after marriage was an engine driver at the iron works.

Thanks

Sue

There's one of the right age (2) in Canonbie in the 1851 census, with his grandparents Robert and Hannah Bell and various cousins (Bell, Law, Cowan).

But I am now wondering if that is a possible double count of  Thomas Little aged 4, who is listed in Canonbie with his parents David & Agnes Little. David Little married Agnes Bell in 1840.

Hi Shaun,

Yes, at first I thought the 'David Little' family was the correct one - but Thomas unfortunately names his father specifically as 'Thomas'

The mystery deepens!

There's probably been a change of name along the way. Perhaps investigate all the Thomas's born Canonbie circa 1849 and see who disappears from view.

What is the occupation of the father Thomas Little on the 1874 marriage certificate?

In the 1861 census there's a Thomas Little aged 13 born Canonbie, with parents David and Elizabeth Smith Little, in Castleton, Roxburghshire. The other Thomas Little is with parents David & Agnes in Canonbie.

the one with parents David & Agnes shows as a woodman on census entries & is unmarried and living with his father in 1881 & 1891.
