hi

stuck with a complete mystery, hope someone can help.

my great great grandfather on my maternal line was James Howe, ive found him on the 1871 census for Derby ..... and theres nothing i can find before then! the census says he was born in Hythe Kent in 1847 - but i cannot find any such birth, nor any 'James Howe' on any census for 1851, 1861 or 1871.

anybody able to suggest or shed light on this mystery would be most welcome

ps i checked the 'variants' box when searching.
Derbys - Hill, Atkins, Kirkland, Hutchinson, Hallam, Rose, Houseley, Astle.
Lancashire - Shaw, Greenwood, Fowler, Yates
Gloucester - Nethercott, Flight,
Suffolk - Easey, Stannard, Meadows, Mann, Turner, Juby
Warwicks - Atkins, Sumner, Mower, Howe.
Staffs - Finney, Kent, Corden, Chatterton

1891:  RG12/2729; Folio: 136; Page: 58 (OCC: Hot Water Fitter)

Can't see the 1871 that you say you have in Derby...

oopsie, my bad... it was 1881 not 71.

yep, i know those bits youve found, my mystery though is that he doesnt appear on any recorded document before his marriage.

very odd.
