GERMANY: Help researching for family in Thüringen - SCHELLHORN
« on: Saturday 07 November 15 22:10 GMT (UK) »
I have hit what we call in England a "brick wall".

I know that my ancestor, Heinrich Caspar SCHELLHORN, was married in Parchim in 1763.

He is referred to in Fritz Schoellhorn, Bausteine zu einer Familiengeschichte der Schelhorn, Schellhorn und Schöllhorn (Benziger, 1923) as follows:

In Ilm, Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt: 1734–1786 Heinrich Caspar Schellhorn betrieb in Ilm um das Jahr 1750 eine Fleischerei. Er zog später nach Parchim in Mecklenburg, verheiratete sich da 1763 mit einer Witwe Steffenhagen, geb. Eichler, wurde Bürger und Amtsmeister von Parchim. Von ihm stammen eine ganze Anzahl Träger des Namens Schellhorn in Norddeutschland ab.

[In Ilm, Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt: 1734-1786 Henry Caspar Schellhorn was a butcher working in Ilm by 1750. Later, he moved to Parchim in Mecklenburg, and in 1763 married a widow named Steffenhagen, born Eichler, and became a citizen and an official master of Parchim. He created a number of bearer of the name Schellhorn from northern Germany.]

My problem is that I cannot discover the source for this statement. I do not know where in "Ilm" Heinrich worked as a Master Butcher. And I do not know what guild records for Parchim list him.

Please can someone assist? Of course, a baptismal record would also be wonderful...

Many thanks indeed. Certain questions about the family remain unanswered, though.
