Good idea but haven't done so yet. My guess is that she was put in a  home and forgotten about. I'll follow through with the Barnados records and see what happens. Really appreciate your assistance

1939 suggests Florence was born 1905 rather than 1898

And the death registration has a 1906 dob

I get the impression that Florence was rather fluid with her age.  This looks like her husband's birth registration:-

SQUIRE, JOHN  THOMAS     HOPE 
GRO Reference: 1906  D Quarter in HEXHAM  Volume 10B  Page 398

This would fit with the date of birth in the 1939.
