I would try this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
If it works you might have a software/driver problem.
I it doesn't, you might have a hardware problem.
At least it'll give you an idea of where to start looking, ammack.

Good luck.

I had rebooted several times. I can't access anything as the screen is blank as in no desktop.
I also tried several times to start in safe mode.
I am wondering if reinstalling the widows disk will do anything.
I know zilch about the techs of a comp.

One suggestion on Google is

"Try Ctrl+Shift+Esc to fire up the Task Manager. Sounds like the Explorer.exe process isn't starting as it should be."

After pressing ctrl shift & esc says to press f12 which brings up a boot menu & choices
Hdd
Cd/dvd
Fdd
Lan

Under that list says enter set up so I pressed enter qhich brings up a lot of info I dont understand but I have pressed save changes & exit. Comp restarted but still exactly as before.

Comp doctor me thinks as I've been having probs with explorer for a while & had a query on here a while ago for that.

Thanks folks for suggestions.

Probably best as I see this has been read over 100 times with very few suggestions. Good luck!
