Antwerp baptism c1835
« on: Sunday 15 November 15 19:09 GMT (UK) »
There are some very useful links on this board to the Flemish/Dutch records, but I haven't been able to find the baptism of John/Jan/Joannes Neetesonne, son of Paul Neetesonne, general dealer, which took place around 1835 in Antwerp(en).

When he married in England, John gave his d.o.b. as 1840, but several censuses are consistent with the earlier date. I have found several references to a Paul(us) Neetesonne who married a Maria Isabella von Tongeren, but haven't been able to establish a connection (although this Paul was a merchant in paintings and one of John's many children was called Isabel).

Antwerp civil registration records are on FamilySearch, but they are not all transcribed. For many volumes you have to browse the images, but they are internally indexed at the front.

Acte no. 237 -- could be your man? See marginal note ...

A bit faint, but you might get something out of it.

Thanks very much. I had seen some of the Belgian baptisms on Familysearch, but hadn't realised there were more that hadn't been transcribed.

Good a fit as Jean Baptiste looks, I'm not certain it's him. If it was, he never used the Baptiste in later years, but did occasionally refer to himself as John Adriaan Neetesonne; and certainly several of his children had Adriaan/Adrienne in their names. Oddly Paul Neetesonne appears to be a 'marin voyageant au long cours' on the attached which was what his son, John, became; but isn't Paul's occupation on John's marriage certificate (see above).

I'll have another look at the link you posted.

Richard

Added: there's a Joannes Leopold Neetesonne in 1839, but no Adriaan.
