Weight taker; stands by weigher and, as latter calls-out weights of goods loaded into vessels or onloaded therefrom, records weights of each class of goods. "A Dictionary of Occupational Terms"
In the 1881 census here are 147 Weight Takers in Liverpool.

From the OED. METER (now rare) A person who measures, a measurer; esp. one responsible for seeing that commodities are traded according to the proper measure.

The Genealogist have trancribed this as West Taker.
Williams, Owens, Pritchard, Povall, Banks, Brown.

Definitely starts with a W then Taker Meter.  Could be a mispelling of Weight  :-\
