Hi, I am new to Ireland research, but am very pleased to find my 2gtUncle's marriage, and was wondering if there is any evidence of his time in Ireland, and maybe of his wife. I have all the info on their life in England (Weston super Mare) but it is the Irish bit I am missing.

Robert James Pressley was born 10/08/1832 in Wylye Wiltshire. I have him in 1841 and 1851, then he disappeared (to Ireland?) I have all his family etc
He married Rebecca McClenahan (born 1832) 20/09/1866 in Agherton Londonderry. Her father is Pierce McClenahan.
They appear in 1891 and 1901 in Weston s Mare he is "retired Chief Civil Servant, Inland Revenue"
Also with them is Rebecca's sister Mary Ann(a) McClenahan b 1827
R J died in Weston in 1903 but I could not find any death for the 2 ladies
However there are deaths with correct dates in Coleraine , Mary in 1903, and Rebecca in 1916, and a 1911 census entry for Rebecca Pressley with a servant in Lodge Rd Coleraine. She states she was born in Kerry.

I would love to have information about their time in Ireland and anything about the sisters.

   You probably already have this information . From the Londonderry Sentinel of 25 Sept 1866
"September 20th, in the parish church, Portstewart, by the Rev Stephen Gwynn, Rector, Mr Robert J. Pressley, HM's Inland Revenue, to Rebecca, second daughter of Mr Pierce McClenaghan, Portstewart, Late Chief Officer HM's Coastguard."

Thank you both! That was quick. I knew of her death date, but had not seen the marriage announcement - it all adds meat to the bones . Cannot open the will - think I need to update adobe . I'll get there

Based on the coastguard records Rebecca is likely to have been born in Dingle, since her father was stationed there from 31 Aug 1828 until 5 April 1834.

I'm not sure if your research is taking you in this direction, but her father was born 7 March 1797, Carlingford, Louth, and was first nominated to the CG Service in April 1822, at which time he was single.

Thank you Martin - what an interesting bit of detail  .

Although she is not a close relative, I would love to look further into her family, as I am a bit weary of English ag labs! Are there any websites I can access for this sort of info? I can only get the 1911 census on ancestry.

If your interested in tracing his CG Service I would suggest that you look at the ADM 175 series of records available as free downloads from the National Archives website, but be warned the files are very large. I would also suggest you visit the Coastguards of Yesteryear website. This is devoted to the CG who worked in Ireland and on the site you will find the above records indexed by CG Station, which makes searching them a whole lot easier, these can be accessed through the 'Articles' page. However, it is extremely rare to find any additional family information.

Start from Port Redford 1822; if you have any problems PM me.
