William Owen and Mary Thomas marriage 1752
« on: Monday 23 November 15 19:43 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my family history and am seeking information on:-

William Owen born on Anglesey 1730 (approx)
Mary Thomas born on Anglesey 1730  (approx)

There is a record of the above couple marrying on the 20th June 1752 on Anglesey but there are conflicting reports on the venue.

findmypast.co.uk has the following details of the venue.

William Owen and Mary Thomas marriage, 20 Jun 1752, Llanfaelog, Anglesey, Wales

familysearch.org

William Owen and Mary Thomas marriage, 20 Jun 1752, Llanfaes, Anglesey, Wales

Any help in finding the correct venue would be appreciated, also any information on the couple themselves, I have posted a similiar request on the Gwynedd Family History Society beta forum but I am not sure how active that forum is.

FindmyPast are notorious for errors such as this, particularly concerning Anglesey parishes Llan .....etc.

The references to two burials later in 1752 "Mary Prichard of Beaumaris, infant buried Sept 3rd" and "Elizabeth Hughes of Beaumaris buried Nov 1st" mean that Llanfaes is the correct parish. From Genuki - "LLANFAES, a parish in the hundred of Tyndaethwy, and borough of Beaumaris, county Anglesey, 1 mile N. of Beaumaris, its post town,..."
Anglesey - Thomas:
Bodedern, Heneglwys, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll.
Anglesey - Jones:
Llanfaethlu, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Rhoscolyn.
Anglesey - Parry:Llanfair-yn-Neubwll.
Anglesey - Lewis:Llanbadrig.
Anglesey - Willins & Tyran/Tyrer

Caernarvonshire - Evans and Lewis:Llanberis.

Denbighshire - Jenkins:Llandynan, Llantysilio, Cerrigydrudion.
Denbighshire - Jones:Rhos, Ruabon.
Denbighshire - Jones:Henllan

Flintshire - Mathews:Northop

Thank you dragonT I never realised that there were problems with "FindMyPast", in future will look elsewhere for information relating to my Anglesey ancestors.

I did try searching on ancestry.com at my local library but did not find any information.

Hi Wireman,

Despite the errors, I do find FindMyPast the best online source for Anglesey parish records, it's a good idea though to treat their transcriptions 'with a pinch of salt'. Also they do say they will action corrections when they are submitted - which I have done in this case.
Anglesey - Thomas:
Bodedern, Heneglwys, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll.
Anglesey - Jones:
Llanfaethlu, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll, Rhoscolyn.
Anglesey - Parry:Llanfair-yn-Neubwll.
Anglesey - Lewis:Llanbadrig.
Anglesey - Willins & Tyran/Tyrer

Caernarvonshire - Evans and Lewis:Llanberis.

Denbighshire - Jenkins:Llandynan, Llantysilio, Cerrigydrudion.
Denbighshire - Jones:Rhos, Ruabon.
Denbighshire - Jones:Henllan

Flintshire - Mathews:Northop

""......Also they do say they will action corrections when they are submitted - which I have done in this case.""
~~~~~~~~-------------------
I only have access to findmypast.com and ancestry.com through my local library usually for one-hour or if there are no people waiting to use the computers a bit longer.
Thanks for submitting the correction, being fairly new to researching family history I am inclined to believe what I see in print, will double check in future.
