The 1917 to 1921 Black and Tan War Service Medal (Without Comrac Bar)
« on: Tuesday 24 November 15 09:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I was wondering if someone could answer this question - I have a photo from the 1980's of my Grandfather wearing his 1917 to 1921 Black and Tan War Service Medal & his 1971 Survivors Medal. However I notice his Black and Tan War Medal is the one Without a Comrac Bar, however I know for a fact that he received an Old IRA Pension, is this correct? Could you receive an Old IRA Pension without having the Comrac Bar Medal (i.e. the medal that recognised a participant engaging in active Military service (involved in IRA Military operations)).

I should add his role was a Transport Driver for an Active Service Unit (1920 - 1921) so I was surprised that he does not have the Comrac Bar
