Could someone please advise me on the ship in which Stephen E Cushing (line 3) last served?

I think it looks like Mampore, but am not at all sure if I am reading it right.

Any help will be very gratefully accepted.

Also, the place where he joined the ship, which was the Orchis. I simply cannot make it out at all

Yes it must be Gloster/Gloucester. The Orchis arrived at Sharpness on 2nd July 1878 and departed for Boston on the 17th.

Thank you both for that information. Even now I find it hard to see Mangrove, but that is just my trying to work it out. It looks just as bad as my writing at times :o :o

I simply would not have thought of Gloucester, never having thought, until now, of Gloucester having a seaport.

Again, many thanks for your help

He'd been on the Mangrove before - see his master's ticket paperwork on Ancestry

ShaunJ Thank you for that. I have seen his certificates to become a second mate, and master (twice), but have not located that information. I will have to have another search to find it.

Many thanks for your assistance and interest.
