A bit more info I have found 4 children Thomas clark cowen who wrote a book on the Japanese russo war.
John Robert cowen 1867 john married a Margaret Wright they had 6 children.
Mary Elizabeth cowen 1871
a unnamed child.

It looks like we both have the same research, Ellen. I'm not related to him. I run the Hull Charterhouse Facebook page (he was a resident, as you know) and I'm going to post his story on the anniversaries of his legal victory and his funeral.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.
