Brigida and Maria Di Giacomo
« on: Wednesday 02 December 15 20:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi Chatters:

This is my first foray into US records and I need your help  :)

I have been trying to find out more information on Italian born Brigida (b. 1869) and Maria (b. 1860) Di Giacomo. I have them on the 1940 US census (Ohio/Cuyahoga/Cleveland City/Ward 15). Bridget is widowed and Mary is single.

I have them entering the US through Ellis Island in Nov 1914. Both going to Brigida's husband Pietro in Cleveland Ohio. But I can't seem to find anything else about them.

Can anyone help?

Could this be Bridget's husband Pietro/Peter?  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X6WX-DBV  The address seems to match the one on the 1940 census.

Could this be an obit for Bridget?  http://newsindex.cpl.org/show.php?record=77892&type=necrology&searchType=both

Yes - that looks like Brigida/Bridget and Pietro/Peter.

Thank you shellyesq (and Genealiza  ;)  )

Now I wonder when Maria died?

If these are the correct Brigida and Maria Di Giacomo that I'm looking for one of them was supposed to have joined a convent after she arrived in the US. My family records seemed to suggest it was Brigida but it makes more sense now for it to have been Maria.

I'll keep looking - thank you again  :)

Thank you again shellyesq  :)

No wonder I didn't get very far - never thought that they might have anglicised their surname from Giacomo to James.  :P

Should have noticed that in the 1940 census.

Yes - and by the looks of it Pietro had already gone ahead of them.

Thank you - yet again  :)
