I don't know where Port Wollach is - where did you get this placename from? Is it possible to show us a scan of the document?

Do you know if his family were CoE? There are some church records on familysearch (a minority are name indexed, so a lack of result from searching from the top screen does not mean they can't be found - in many cases you will have to check parish by parish, however)

Could it possibly be Port Nolloth which was in South West Africa, now Namibia?  I agree with you regarding Benoni.

Yes it is Benoni, I misread the text, I have attached the "papers" that show his discharge in SA I believe it may be to a shore depot called Afrikander /Port Wolloch.
