Possibilities are:
- check Scotlandspeople for a burial record (as you have his widow's one, I assume you have checked for Thomas and not found him. That may be because he died before the burial register was kept or there is a gap in the register.)
- check for a monumental inscription (the most likely source of an age at death, but not everyone had a gravestone, and not all stones survive or are still visible.)
- check Scotlandspeople for a will/testament/inventory (that would probably give a year or month of death, but would not give an age.)
- check the minutes of the kirk session for any reference to his death (e.g. his widow being given assistance. This might give a rough time of death, but not an age.)
- check the accounts of the kirk session (they may refer to payment for use of a hearse, mortcloth or bell. Again that would give a rough date of death rather than an age. The accounts are often combined with the minutes of the session.)
- check the newspapers (the deaths of quite ordinary people are sometimes mentioned, especially if there had been some kind of accident.)
- look at all the baptisms in the parish to see the last time he appears as a witness or if his wife, as a witness, is described as a widow.)
