Who likes a mystery?
« on: Monday 07 December 15 09:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
I have an ancestry account and have also searched LDS records and have come up with zero.  I have a Nehemiah Jeffcott and his wife? Sarah baptising 4 children in West Bromwich All Saints Church.  Eliza bapt 1825, Betsy bapt 1830, John bapt 1833 and Lucy bapt 1835 however I cannot find any trace of this family in the 1841 census or at all since the baptisms.  I cannot find a death for Nehemiah (not the same person as the one who died in 1860 who was married and living in Stockingford at the same time as the Nehemiah who was baptising children in West Bromwich, unless he was leading a double life!!  I cannot find a marriage of Nehemiah and Sarah? If I could find this it may be a starting point. Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks all.  If anyone does not have ancestry and wants to me do do any look up in return do let me know.  :)

Jeffcott is a name of a street in Adelaide SA - named after Sir John William Jeffcott - so no.

I wonder if they left in the first wave of ships in 1836/7 to South Australia.

There is this family in 1841 in West Bromwich which matches some of the names - the original is faint

William Jefcotte    40  Coal Miner - Not Born in County
Sarah Jefcotte 35
John Jefcotte 9
Leucy Jefcotte    8
Thomas Jefcotte 3
Joseph Jefcotte    1

Edit - There is a later birth of a Jesse Jeffcott in 1842 who died in 1849 - Baptism lists his parents as William and Sarah   Could Nehemiah have reverted to William???

Hi, I was thinking the same thing about Nehemiah reverting to William.  If I could find the baptisms of Thomas and Joseph that would also be helpful.  Thanks for all your comments and help.

Looked in familysearch/ancestry but can't find the baptisms of Thomas or Joseph but Joseph was registered Mar 1840   West Bromwich Joseph Jeffcott vol 18   p 582 so if you are feeling flush and/or can afford the £9.75 the certificate will tell you the name his father was using.
