So, I live in Canada, and do a great deal of research in the records. It is Scotland where the research becomes muddy. The Wight family was definitely from the Ochiltree and Old Cumnock area of Ayrshire. Hugh Wight was born in Pluck, Old Cumnock area, and both Hugh and Catherine were by 1829 of the parish of Ochiltree as regular attenders. The names fit, the ages fit, the place fits.

Catherine Meikle confirmed as being of different parentage..........

Unbelievable that so many trees on Ancestry have that wrong yet the "proof" is there on the death cert.  ???

Process of elimination spells out a lot & doesn't leave much else for you to query in my book.

Just a pity Catherine's parents names are neither on her marriage nor death but seems to be the right candidate from all quarters especially the naming pattern.

Strange there doesn't seem to be a daughter named Agnes

I can help with this. Your ancestor Catherine Brown, born 1806 in Ochiltree, Ayrshire, was an elder sister of my ancestor Robert, born in 1817. Their parents were John Brown and Mary Kerr, married in 1804, and John's parents were William Brown and Katherine Campbell, married in 1776. I think William's father came from New Cumnock but I am still researching this.
I have searched Scotland's People and found that Catherine married Hugh Wight on 10th April, 1829 in Ochiltree.
