Success - cross!
« on: Thursday 10 December 15 10:39 GMT (UK) »
I'm sure this tip was originally passed to me on rootschat, but I've searched, and can't find it.  :'(

But anyway; in "the old days" the name Cross was often written with a long 's', coming
out (to modern eyes) as Crofs.

However, when written by hand, the long 's' and the trailing small 's' can merge, and this
is sometime transcribed (and therefore indexed) as "Crop".

I recently changed the surname I'm searching for to be "Cross OR Crop" (syntax varies from site to site), with superior results.

So - thanks to whoever taught me this. I'm paying it forward.
